Kachi Lodge – Glamping In The Bolivian Salt Flats

The Kachi Lodge is the only luxury and eco-friendly lodge standing on the Uyuni Salt Flats. These igloo-shaped structures are solar-powered and offer visitors the comfort of a five-star hotel room. All of these domes are elevated on a wooden platform, which is above the salty surface.

Unparalleled Design And Comfort

According to the owners, this design is intended to protect the nature below and ensures that the lodge can remain open during the rainy season, just when the Salar becomes a watery mirror reflecting the vast expanses of the Bolivian sky.

Inside the capsule is one room, which is equipped with a wooden screen to protect the shower area, ceramic sinks and toilet. The floor is covered with a soft beige carpet.

The Amazing Escapes representative states that the interior decoration is very cozy, it has a double bed -which is located in the center of the dome, precisely to offer the best view-, a wooden trunk next to the bed to store flashlights, two stools and a small ladder, this furniture is responsible for creating a minimalist atmosphere around the central stove (Uyuni’s temperature can drop to -15°C or more during winter nights).

The décor blends in with the landscape outside, making the stay an “out of this world” experience.

The domes are composed of repeated triangles; this metallic structure is the very essence of mathematics. In front or above them, there is a transparent panel that offers open views over the salt flat and its starry sky. At night, the camp is illuminated by solar panels, which are placed between the domes. This is one of the most amazing and elegant man-made engineering sites in this arid region.

Complete Experience

There are many options for getting the most out of this salt flat experience. In addition to all the adventure that comes with spending the night in the capsules, there is also a morning hike to a nearby island, which is covered with giant cacti and incredible scenery.

In the afternoon, tourists could visit the charming village of Coquesa and its mummies, which are found inside a cave 600 meters from the village.

Another place is the Alcaya archeological site, which is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes away by car. It is an ancient pre-Columbian city near Salinas. In this place the more adventurous can walk to the lower edge of the crater of the Tunupa volcano, which looks imposing from above the plain where the domes sit.

On the way, a stop can be made at the salt mines, so that the tourist can understand how the locals collect the salt from the surface.

Another alternative is to borrow one of the mountain bikes provided by the Kachi Lodge company and discover the salt flat around the camp.

And of course, at night a telescope will be available for tourists to observe the starry sky of the Altiplano. It could not be for less because one of the premises of the trip is to be ‘closer to the moon’.

The Best Bolivian Flavors

After exploring the wonders of the Salar, Kachi’s guests will gather for dinner in the communal central dome (which will also be open all day for guests to enjoy). There, they will enjoy the excellent food menu that will be prepared by some of the chefs from Gustu, a renowned and award-winning restaurant in La Paz.

This brand is characterized by the exclusive use of Bolivian products in its dishes, reflecting the culture and biodiversity of the country. And, as the day comes to an end, tourists can enjoy a drink while watching the gray crust begin to glow iridescently under the star-filled night sky.

With the arrival of Black Tomato in Bolivia, the country enters the list of the most exotic and extravagant places in the world.

Now the possibilities of spending an intimate moment, in contact with nature and close to the infinite universe become tangible. This unique adventure, and above all, full of luxury and comfort, offers the possibility of enjoying the Salar from another perspective.

About The Kachi Lodge

Bolivia is one of the favorite countries for foreign tourists, who come to know and enjoy the incredible landscapes it offers. One of the most visited places is the Salar de Uyuni, which is considered the largest and highest salt desert in the world, with an area of 10,582 square kilometers and is 3,650 meters above sea level.

This natural attraction is located in the southwest of the country, in the Daniel Campos province of the department of Potosí. For many years, demanding visitors have been asking for hotels with luxurious infrastructures to be built to meet their needs and now, at last, they will have what they expect, albeit in a very peculiar way.

Black Tomato is the travel company that developed over the years a solid reputation for providing unimaginable and cutting-edge experiences. They were the originators of itineraries in new, remote and in some cases exotic destinations.

After trying their luck in Europe’s most glamorous capitals, the company launched Blink, their popular personalized luxury travel service, which provides the opportunity to design your own temporary accommodations and choose private, untouched locations where no one else has ever stayed before and no one else will ever do it the same way.

They were the ones who set their sights on the Salar.
